Although it's been so long since my last post I've not given up, I've just been trying a new blog for size and have decided to stick with it so you can now find me here at Blogger and catch up on what I've been up to since the start of the year.
I've been lucky enough to have 3 commissions over the last couple of months, and from previous customers. It's great to know that people have liked your work enough to want more, so I've done two portraits for a friends family members and a mermaid gift for a little birthday girl. Hopefully more will follow.
It took me a while to get into but I've finally completed my first piece of coursework for the children's book illustration course I signed up for. The task was to produce an image for the rhyme row your boat so I decided to create something bright and colourful and very me, I just hope the course tutor likes it when I send it off!
I've been completing two more Art House projects recently, starting with the print exchange. I had to create 12 prints with the theme 'the drive home' from which 10 will be swapped and sent to other participants so everyone ends up with the work of 10 other artists to enjoy. My first screen printed attempt didn't work so with time running out I created prints featuring a combination of photography and illustration but they didn't quite fit the brief . Given a second chance I decided to try out the screen printing kit for a second time and came up with this badger in his red sports car. I look forward to seeing what the 10 prints are that I will receive in exchange.
The second project I've just completed is the pen pal painting exchange. After receiving a mini canvas it took me a while to decide what to paint on it but in the end I decided on a garden scene with a little girl catching colourful butterflies. It's now in the post with a card about myself so it can be matched up with another canvas and swapped, so once I get their painting it will hopefully start a new friendship with a like-minded artist. I just hope that who-ever ends up with my work from either project enjoys it!
I thought it was about time I ticked of another task from my 50 things to do list. When I first saw No. 1 I didn't have a clue how I could fulfill it, then I remembered that The City of London is a city of it's own within London our capital city. So as I was heading to London to take in some photographic exhibitions today I also went to St. Paul's cathedral to take in probably the best sight the City of London has to offer, apart from the blue trees!
I've entered my first children's book illustration competiton which is open for public voting before the top 3 go through to the judges vote. If you want to take a look at the entries and maybe vote for me then check out Illustrate It, there's only 9 days left and it's one vote per person!
The Print Exchange is another project by the Art House Co-op that asks entrants to produce 12 editions of a print which are sent back and then 10 are swapped so at the end everyone gets the work of 10 different artists back.
This years theme is 'The Drive Home...' and it took me a few ideas to get to this image. I had planned to do screen printing and had a different design planned out but my lack of experience meant it was a disaster so a last minute back-up plan was needed! I decided to combine two interests by taking a photo of a road and drawing over the top and came up with this, a little red car just trying to get home but being chased by an angry cloud. I hope who ever gets a copy likes it and I look forward to see what arrives in the post for me!
